Woodcock and ruffed grouse hunting expedition.
From September 24th to October 31st.

Pictures taken by Jean-Pierre Denuc - Chief Editor of "Bécasse Passion''

The Robidoux Lakes Outfitter is situated in the Robidoux district close to the legendary Bonaventure River in the Gaspé Peninsula, which is South East of the St-Lawrence River and South West of the Chic Choc Mountains.

The climatic conditions and the biotope of the region of the Baie des Chaleurs allow the presence of a particularly high number of woodcock and crested ruffed grouse. Furthermore, a very important migration as early as the end of September and during the month of October allows hunting the American woodcock in more favorable conditions in a zone of high density and of many trails thanks to the work of our guides and of their hunting dogs in order to guarantee you an unforgettable hunting experience of very high quality.

The hunting legislation in our region authorizes four woodcock and 5 ruffed grouse per day/ per hunter with a total limit of sixteen woodcock and 10 ruffed grouse for your stay.

You can bring your rifles registered under the Canadian Fire Arms (CAD $50) when you enter Canadian territory. (Contact us so we can send you the form to be submitted in advance). For the woodcock and ruffed grouse hunt, it is necessary to bring lead ammunition or steel, bismuth or tungsten in sizes 7 1/2-8-9. For wildfowl ammunition without lead is obligatory.

Your dog must be provided with a valid certificate of international vaccination including the vaccination against the rabies and his collar must provide information identifying his name, his race and the owner. We offer accommodation for dogs in our kennel during your stay. Every dog has his own comfortable bed. A veterinary clinic in New Richmond can intervene in case of a problem.

We will welcome you as soon as you arrive with your rooms ready and a kennel for your dogs. We will introduce you to your guide, establish your itinerary and form the hunting teams for the week according to type of hunt and migration.

The hunt takes place on different territories in varied biotopes, accompanied with a guide, his dogs and his vehicle. The lunch is made in the lodge every morning. The departures to the territories follow.

Our guides will use mainly « continental »*** dogs. They are very effective « finders » of birds. Their work quest allows you to see them evolve in the field. The quality and intensity of their stop allows you to have reasonable luck in finding small game.

Nos guides
All our guides have almost 20 years of experience in woodcock and ruffed grouse hunting all over Quebec.

They are on the territory from springtime to get the territory ready for you as the vegetation evolves and the nesting areas change. They are anxious to let you know about our woodcock and their experiences with our re-known crested ruffed grouse.

They are passionate, very professional and excellent managers and trainers. Furthermore, they are owners of a very reputable kennel. Our head guide trains new guides to therefore increase our local team for the improvement and a good selection of future guides.

Management of the forest floor to optimize the rise of the birds.

We manage the forest floor in sections. The guide will bring you to different places, which will allow a good chance of finding these birds without over hunting the grounds. Regular rotation of these sites in the biotopes is essential conditions for good management. Hunting being as it is, we will do our best to give you all the best chances considering the season, the migration and the weather.
